Life, Love, & Other Mysteries: Advice and Inspiration from America's #1 Christian Pop Group
Published in Hardcover by Pocket Star (October, 1996)
Authors: Davin Seay, David Seay, Denise Jones, Terry Jones, Heather Floyd, Shelley Phillips, and Point of Grace
Average review score:

An awesome book for anyone who loves CCM
This is a great book for anyone who loves Point of Grace (like me) or Christian Contemperary Music, or a story of four girls keeping their virtue in a world where singers and movie stars alike are losing theirs. The book is divided up into sections. Each of the girls, Heather, Shelley, Denise, and Terry take a chapter and tell about their lives and how they got into music, etc... and the rest is kind of question and answer sections where they address topics like friends, family, dating, clothes, etc... It is a very inspiring book, besides being great fun to read. I rate it a 10!

The Littlest Matchmaker (Zebra Bouquet Romances, 76)
Published in Paperback by Bouquet (December, 1900)
Author: Laura Phillips
Average review score:

Great Characters - Fun Read
I confess - I yell at characters! Too often I think the women in these books get hooked up with verbally abusive, "caught in past experiences" men. If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results wouldn't it seem that it is a bit nuts to be with a different women and expect them to also be moneygrubbing liars? (or whatever their lost loves did?) Laura Phillip's characters escape this. In this book her main character is a capable woman who has made a success of her life - and in falls a dream guy with a daughter - But he does not expect all women to be heartless child abandoners - and the daughter is a total charmer without being an angel. This book is fun, charming, believable, and a good read. This author should move up the ranks of great romance authors - I want more!

Local History Collections in Libraries
Citing the developments in technology, changes in the description and arrangement of materials, and the advancements in preservation, the author offers this comprehensive manual on local history collections. Well written and organized, the book covers collection development, access, preservation, new technologies, users, publicity, and administration. The questions raised in each section also provide a basis for more reflection on the topic. Sample forms are represented throughout the book and there is an extensive bibliography at the end. Recommended for any library with a local history collection.

Look at Me: Creative Learning Activities for Babies and Toddlers (Recipe for Fun Series)
Published in Paperback by Chicago Review Press (October, 1987)
Authors: Carolyn Buhai Haas and Jane Bennett Phillips
Average review score:

Look at Me!
This book has excellent ideas for crafts, activities, manipulatives and general learning for young children. I was particularly pleased to see activities appropriate for babies on up to elementary school age.

The layout of the book makes it easy to take the suggestions and put them into action. Most items can be found around the average home which saves time and money on purchasing supplies. Unlike many children's activity/craft books, the author suggests things that I would actually want to and be able to do with my 3- and 1-year-old, without the hassles of finding specialized supplies, making huge messes or grandiose ideas that aren't practical with little ones.

Another book that I found similarly appealing is EcoArt, which uses craft supplies that can be found in your recycle bin or using things growing in the yard.

An excellent resource for parents of young children, day care providers, birthday party planners or anyone who wants to have fun interacting with young children.

The Love of Old Egypt (Idol)
Published in Paperback by Virgin Publishing (June, 1999)
Authors: Phillip Markham and Philip Markham
Average review score:

Love and Sexual Intrigue Along the Nile
"They were by now right in the middle of the river and there was no other boat in sight. It soon became clear that Khalid had not given up on the idea of sex. He sat by the rudder, guiding the felucca further west. Strange birds swept down from the sky and called to each other, before swooping down on the water and floating close to the boat.'Birds don't mind what we do,' Khalid explained wickedly. 'They've seen this before and they pretend not to notice.'

It's 1925 and the deluxe cruiser carrying the young gigolo Jeremy Hessling has docked at Luxor. Jeremy dreams of being dominated by the pharaohs of old, but quickly becomes involved with someone more accessible -- Khalid, a young man of exceptional beauty.

Jeremy is used to trading on his looks in his profession but, as he finds himself in an escalating adventure of sexual intrigue, he realises there's more than one way to bribe his way out of a bad situation. And instead of the opulent temples of his imagination, he finds love and sex among the crumbling ruins where the Nile still flows, just as it did centuries ago. By the author of Convict Chains."- abstract from A Brother's Touch

Lovecraft: A Study in the Fantastic
Published in Paperback by Wayne State Univ Pr (July, 1988)
Authors: Maurice Levy and S. T. Joshi
Average review score:

The French scholar is cool and concise.
Levy's book is filled with explorations of neat themes in Lovecraft such as attics (vs. cellars), dreamworlds, stairways dug from underground up... The book's charm as well as weakness is that it points out Lovecraft's relation to other thinkers (Poe, Hawthorne, Freud, Einstein, Le Fanu) but doesn't get bogged down working those relations out.
